The Process is The Purpose
A process-led art studio, based in Albert Park. No judgement. No critique. Just process. We focus on self-expression, experimentation, meaning-making, and overall wellbeing through uninhibited creation.
Our Programs
Discover Your Symbols | August 2026
Have you ever been drawn to an image, a shape, or a specific animal for no logical reason? Or perhaps you've noticed certain themes, figures, or scenarios repeatedly showing up in your dreams?
In psychodynamic theory, these symbols act as the language of our unconscious mind. They often represent the parts of ourselves that we’ve tucked away or repressed that might need some attention.
This 2-hour workshop is a relaxed, supportive space to explore your inner world. By bypassing the logical brain and leaning into process-led art, we can uncover the symbols that are unique to you. Through a series of intuitive, image-based exercises and mixed media, we will translate these hidden thoughts into meaningful artwork.
Corporate Groups
Our bespoke corporate programs are precisely tailored to address the unique dynamics, needs, and overarching goals of your business. Whether your objective is to facilitate collaborative team building or to actively analyse internal processes, we develop a targeted, process-driven experience that fosters cognitive flexibility and professional cohesion.
Private Events
Bring your group together for a birthday, hens night, or wedding celebration with a private, hands-on art experience designed specifically around your guests. Whether we host you in our dedicated studio space or bring the materials directly to your venue, we will design a custom session that aligns perfectly with your goals. The experience can be exactly as lighthearted and fun, or as deeply meaningful and collaborative, as you desire.

Move Beyond the Masterpiece
Traditional art classes focus on rigid technique and the pursuit of a perfect final product. We focus entirely on the psychological and cathartic benefits of creation. By removing the pressure to perform, expressive art becomes a highly effective tool for building resilience and emotional processing. The mess and mistakes are not a byproduct, but the goal.
Connect to Your Creative Roots
Restore
The core philosophy of the studio is that the simple act of creating is inherently healing. By completely stripping away the pursuit of aesthetic perfection and the pressure of critique, the programme allows you to just create.
Explore
Instead of following strict instruction, you are invited to discover diverse techniques. Map sensory landscapes with heavy clay, explore inner narratives through mixed media, or release energy with bold brushstrokes.
Decompress
The focus remains entirely on the experience of the maker. This is a dedicated opportunity to unwind the nervous system, find genuine catharsis, and enjoy the deeply human act of uninhibited self-expression.
Make Meaning
Not everything needs to be verbalised. The studio provides a secure, non-judgemental environment to bypass standard communication and process the internal world visually.

[The Melbourne Art Studio] created a safe and encouraging environment where Jenna felt comfortable expressing herself creatively, which was a significant achievement given the communication challenges associated with her hearing impairment.

Classes at The Melbourne Art Studio have given me the permission I didn't know I needed to make art purely for the joy of it. Stepping into that space instantly settles my nerves.

I cannot recommend these classes enough for general well-being and mental health. It has been an incredibly supportive space to explore my emotions and connect with like-minded people.

Meet the Founder
The Melbourne Art Studio is led by Christopher Lachine. Currently completing a Master of Art Therapy at La Trobe University, Christopher brings a unique intersection of cognitive research, specialised art instruction, and corporate strategy to his facilitation.
His foundation in the cognitive and developmental benefits of the arts was built over four years of research at the Sound and Music Auditory Research Technology Lab and the Deaf Culture Centre of Toronto, alongside administering diagnostic tests at the Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at Toronto Metropolitan University. As a specialised art instructor, his practical experience includes serving as the lead instructor for a research project at SickKids Hospital working with deaf children using cochlear implants, as well as extensive private instruction for students with diverse needs.
